Tax Collected

When something sells, sales tax is usually part of the price. Who collects it and sends it to the government depends on where it sold. The Tax collected report shows the sales tax on your sales for each filing period: what you collected yourself, and what the marketplaces collected and sent in for you. It's part of the Starter, Growth and Pro plans.

Who collects the tax

  • Poshmark, eBay and Depop charge the buyer sales tax and send it to the government themselves. It isn't yours to report.
  • Facebook Marketplace and cash sales are different: you take the payment, so those sales count as yours. If you're registered for GST/HST, you charge the tax and send it in.

GST/HST is the federal sales tax: 5% GST in some provinces, or HST, which combines GST and provincial tax, like 13% in Ontario. PST (in British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba) and QST (in Quebec) are provincial sales taxes with their own registration and return.

Open it

  1. Click Reports in the top menu.
  2. Click the Tax collected tab.
  3. Choose the year from the Year dropdown.

Point at any column heading to see exactly what it counts.

If you're not registered for GST/HST

You don't charge sales tax, so the report shows your sales instead, by quarter:

  • Sales you took payment for: sales like Facebook Marketplace and cash.
  • Poshmark, eBay and Depop sales: the marketplaces collected the tax on these.

Tax collected for 2025 for a seller who isn't registered: Sales you took payment for and Poshmark, eBay and Depop sales (circled) for each quarter, with the year's total

The sales you take payment for yourself count toward the $30,000 GST/HST registration threshold. Your Poshmark, eBay and Depop sales don't.

If you're registered for GST/HST

The report has a row for each of your filing periods (monthly, quarterly or yearly, as set in Settings → Sales tax) and these columns:

  • Sales you collected tax on: sales you took payment for yourself, before the tax, less refunds.
  • GST/HST: the GST/HST you collected on them. It goes on your GST/HST return.
  • PST or QST, if you're registered for it. It goes on its own provincial return.
  • Tax you collected: all the sales tax you collected, which you send in.
  • Your sales with no tax: sales you took payment for without charging tax, like ones recorded before you registered. This only shows when there are some.
  • Poshmark, eBay and Depop sales

On the Pro plan, Reports → GST/HST shows the figures to enter on each GST/HST return. If you use the quick method, your return works differently: you send the CRA a set share of your sales instead of the tax collected here.

Common questions

Why is my tax collected $0?

If you're not registered, you don't charge tax, so there's nothing to collect. If you are, your sales may all be on Poshmark, eBay or Depop, which collect the tax themselves, or they were recorded before you registered.

Do I owe tax on my Poshmark, eBay and Depop sales?

Those marketplaces collect the sales tax and send it in, so it isn't yours to report. They're in the report so you can see the whole picture. If you're registered, ask your accountant how to show those sales on your return.

I recorded a cash sale, but no tax shows.

A sale recorded as Other (offline or another site) is never taxed. It shows under Your sales with no tax.

These numbers don't match my GST/HST return figures.

The return figures also count your Poshmark, eBay and Depop sales and your other income in your total sales, and on the quick method, the tax works out differently.

I shipped to a buyer in another province. Is the rate right?

RelistKit uses your province's rates, not your buyer's. If you sell a lot to other provinces, check with your accountant.
