Shipping Label Costs

RelistKit tracks what shipping does to your profit with almost no work from you. This article explains what happens automatically and the one number we ask you to enter, platform by platform.

The short version

  • Selling price, fees, and taxes are recorded automatically when a sale comes in. You never type those.
  • On eBay and Depop only, we ask for one number after a sale: what the shipping label actually cost you. Enter it when you buy the label and your profit is exact.
  • Poshmark and Facebook Marketplace never ask for anything. Poshmark's label is prepaid by the buyer's flat shipping fee, and Facebook local pickup has no shipping at all.

Why we ask for the label cost

On eBay and Depop, you set a shipping price on the listing, the buyer pays it, and then you buy the label yourself after the sale. The label almost never costs exactly what the buyer paid. If it cost less, you made a little extra; if it cost more, that loss is real and belongs in your numbers.

The shipping price you charged is already inside Sold for the moment the sale is recorded. The only missing fact is what the label cost you, and only you know that, at the moment you buy it. That is the one number we ask for.

Until you enter a label cost we count it as $0, the same way a missing item cost works, so your profit reads a little high rather than blocking on you. It corrects itself the moment you type the number.

1. Enter a label cost from the reminder

The fastest way is the reminder on the Sales overview:

  1. Navigate to Sales → Overview. If any recent eBay or Depop sales are missing a label cost, the Needs attention section says so and shows an Add label costs button.

  1. Click Add label costs. You land on exactly those sales, with a Shipping label column showing an Add link on each row.
  2. Click Add on a sale.
  3. Type what the label cost, for example 14.85 .

2. Enter or correct a label cost at any time

  1. Navigate to Sales → All sales.
  2. Click Columns and switch on Shipping label.
  3. Click the Add link on any sold eBay or Depop sale, or click an existing amount to correct it.
  4. Type the amount, or clear the field to remove it.
  5. Click Save.

What if I never enter it?

Nothing breaks. These numbers stay complete either way:

  • Sales
  • Revenue
  • Payouts

Only profit on those specific sales reads high by the label amount. The reminder counts sales from the last 90 days, so old history never nags you. Sales older than that can still be filled in through the Shipping label column whenever you feel like tidying up.

Where these numbers show up

  • All sales: the optional Shipping charged column (the shipping part of what the buyer paid, when we know it) and the Shipping label column, both switched on from the Columns menu.
  • Profit everywhere. Label costs are netted out of profit in:
    • The monthly chart
    • The overview tiles
    • The Platforms tab

The Platforms tab's Your costs column is your item costs plus label costs, so You keep minus Your costs always equals Profit on the page.

Common questions

I entered the wrong amount.

  1. Navigate to Sales → All sales.
  2. Click the amount in the Shipping label column.
  3. Type the right number.
  4. Click Save.

Does a Poshmark sale ever need a label cost?

No. The buyer's flat fee prepays the label, so the cost is $0 and the column stays empty.
