Record a Facebook or Cash Sale

With automatic sale detection, Poshmark, eBay and Depop sales record themselves from their emails. Every other sale you record yourself, like a Facebook Marketplace sale or cash to a friend. It takes ten seconds, and keeps your sales history and your tax figures complete. Recording a sale works on every plan.

When to record a sale yourself

  • Facebook Marketplace sales: Facebook sends no sale email RelistKit can read.
  • Cash, market and pop-up sales, and sales to friends.
  • Every sale on the Free plan: automatic sale detection comes with Starter, Growth and Pro.
  • A Poshmark, eBay or Depop sale whose email never arrived. If the email (or your connected eBay account) brings the sale in later, RelistKit replaces your figures with the marketplace's own, and still counts it once.

1. Open the sale form

There are two ways in:

  • Open the item from Inventory → Items, then click Mark as sold at the top of the page.
  • Click Sales in the top menu, click Record a sale, then search for the item under Which item? by title, SKU or item number.

2. Enter the sale

  1. Under Where did it sell?, choose where it sold: Facebook Marketplace, or Other (offline or another site) for a cash sale or a site RelistKit doesn't know. Poshmark, eBay and Depop are there too.
  2. Under Sold price, enter what you were paid. It starts with the item's listed price. For Other, enter exactly what you got: no fees or tax are added.
  3. Under When?, leave today, or pick the date.
  4. Click Record the sale.

The Record a sale window: the Eddie Bauer jacket under Which item?, Where did it sell? set to Other (offline or another site) with its note circled, Sold price $29.00 and When?

Mark as sold starts with the marketplace the item is listed on. For a cash sale, change it to Other.

3. Take it down everywhere else

If the item is still listed anywhere else, the window turns into Take it down elsewhere, so it can't sell twice:

  1. Click Open on and the marketplace's name, and end the listing there.
  2. Back in RelistKit, click Mark taken down.
  3. Repeat for each marketplace, then click Done.

If your eBay account is connected, the eBay listing is ended for you. On the Starter, Growth and Pro plans, you also get an email with the same links.

Closed the window before you were done? Open the item: each listing still up shows Mark delisted on its Platforms card.

What's recorded

When you record the sale:

  • The item becomes Sold.
  • The sale appears under Sales, with your profit: what you were paid, less what the item cost you. A cash sale has no fees to take off.
  • If the item is listed elsewhere, you're reminded to take it down.

Tax on sales you record

If you're not registered for GST/HST, no tax is added. Your Facebook Marketplace and Other sales count toward the $30,000 registration threshold, because you collected the payment yourself (see The $30,000 Threshold).

If you're registered, RelistKit works out the tax on your Facebook Marketplace sales from your settings: your province, and whether your Facebook prices include tax or you add it on top. A sale recorded as Other never has tax added. See GST/HST: Registered or Not.

Common questions

I recorded the wrong amount.

  1. Click Sales in the top menu, then the All sales tab.
  2. Find the sale's row.
  3. Click the pencil on its row, and correct the amount.

See Correcting a Sale.

Can I record a sale for an item that isn't in RelistKit?

Add the item first: open its Poshmark listing, click the RelistKit button, then Add to RelistKit. Then record the sale.

I picked the wrong item or marketplace.

The sale can't be moved to another item or marketplace yourself. Contact us through Support, and we'll fix it.

The item I sold isn't in the Which item? list.

Sold and archived items aren't offered. If the sale came in by email and is waiting for you, link it instead (see Sales That Need Review).

Does recording a sale use credits?

No. It's free, on every plan.
